The working group “House for Democracy and Inclusion” sees itself as an advisory and strategic body that meets twice a year and brings together different perspectives.
Composition of the working group
The working group is composed of the archive’s supporting institution, the educational and meeting centre Schloss Trebnitz, the Friends’ Association of the International Archive for Curative Education (registered association) as an institutional memory that had previously supported the archive for many years, and the owner of the archival holdings, the Professional and Specialist Association for Curative Education (BHP).
Background and development
The background to this composition is the founding of the International Archive for Curative Education, which was decided in 2010 by the executive board of the BHP e.V. in Berlin.
Two years later, in 2012, the archive was established as part of a campus network for education, science, and culture on the former manor estate in Trebnitz.
Until 2024, the work of the archive was supported by the dedicated commitment of the members of the Friends’ Association.
Restructuring and current institutional embedding
After a longer closure period marked by extensive construction and renovation work, the archive was reopened in summer 2025 under new governance and with an expanded concept.
The Educational and Meeting Centre Schloss Trebnitz e. V. has taken over responsibility and integrated the archive into the newly created House for Democracy and Inclusion on the Schloss Trebnitz campus.
Since then, a multifaceted place of learning and encounter has been developed here, aiming to connect past and future.
In this process, the Friends’ Association of the International Archive for Curative Education (registered association) as well as the BHP e. V. remain important partners and continue to be closely connected to the new governing body in terms of expertise.
Tasks of the working group
In the working group, the respective roles and responsibilities are coordinated. It addresses questions regarding the further development of the preservation of the archival holdings, the expansion and maintenance of databases, as well as the cataloguing of the specialist library’s collections.
A particular focus is placed on coordinating joint initiatives and ideas, especially the planning of shared events and educational programmes.

Award / funding prize
The award for outstanding final theses from curative education degree programmes and training courses is presented by the Friends’ Association of the International Archive (registered association) in cooperation with the Professional and Specialist Association for Curative Education (BHP) e.V.
It supports the promotion of young researchers and is intended to encourage future professionals to engage in depth with historical questions in curative education.
